Give the gift of music and orchestrate change in our community
June 11 – June 27, 2013 Instrument Drop-off from 9 am – 9 pm Winspear CentreThe Edmonton Symphony Orchestra is committed to inspiring and changing the lives of children through the gift of music; and they are calling out to the community for help. To support the ESO’s diverse and emergent educational programming efforts, the ESO and Winspear Centre are accepting instrument donations. The three-week campaign takes place from June 11 to 27, 2013.
Last month the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra publicly introduced YONA-Sistema (Youth Orchestra of Northern Alberta) – a music educational outreach program launching this fall at Mother Teresa Elementary School for children who might not otherwise get the chance to play music. Instruments are needed not only for this free after-school program, but also to support the ESO’s many music education outreach efforts in the community.
Any type of instrument in any condition will be accepted. Donations can be dropped off at the Winspear Centre’s Security office located at the Artists’ Entrance (east side of the building off of 97 Street) from 9 am to 9 pm. For large-sized instrument donations, the ESO asks that arrangements be made in advance by calling Alyssa Paterson at 780-401-2531.
Every gift of music, large or small, makes a profound difference in a child’s life, whether it indirectly accelerates a spark of musical interest or directly transforms into a new passion. Ultimately, offering music education in under-served areas is meant to kindle a sense of community, self-esteem and confidence in those who may not otherwise have the opportunity to participate.
If you do not have an instrument to donate, but would like to know more about how you can contribute to this worthwhile program, please contact Erin Mulcair at 780-401-2539.
